Mahabharata, The Great Indian Epic - Sudarshan Ray

Mahabharata, The Great Indian Epic - Sudarshan Ray

An amazing tale of ancient India, described in easy English. I wanted the English version of the Mahabharata, 'cuz I already have the Bhagavad gita in Kannada, omg, I got this book through a massive hunt...!

It was a really cool experience reading the Indian epic in a convenient way. Just like the Ramayana, I watched the Mahabharata serial too in my childhood. Basically, I knew the story and reading the same was like a revisit... Some of the details described in the book were slightly different than what I'd watched, but they all fell into the same final spectrum, the Kurukshetra war.

Just like the book on Ramayana, even this book contained information about the post-war happenings. Eventually, I got to know the actual aftermath of the war, like that's important too. Whenever something happens, even the consequences, whether good or bad, must be relevant.

Overall, the book is a must-read to know about the country's past and also a lesson to learn about 'dharma' and 'karma', that they'll always be in favour of those who are honest, truthful and loyal in any field and that building your castle on the remains of the deserved won't ever last long...
